Happy New Year!

New year, time to get back into posting here again...

One thing that I am trying this year is I am going to try to memorize two Bible verses each month along with Beth Moore. On the 1st and 15th of each month I will select a new verse that speaks to me. This is the first verse I have chosen:

Ephesians 4:32
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

As for school, I am making a few changes for second semester. I am failing miserably in trying to work in science and social studies. There is just so little time in the day! So for social studies I am starting a states and capitals project for 1st through 3rd grades. I have purchased a cool kids atlas that the kids will use to get their information. I created a half-page document, differentiated by age, that the kids will fill out for each state. I have also found a couple great sights with state-related coloring pages. We will start this week with South Dakota. For science, I have decided to group Kindergarten and First Grade together and Second and Third Grade together and work on just two science curricula instead of four. Science will be on Friday afternoons while the opposite group does math games / activities. The Social project will be assigned on Monday, due on Friday. We will see how it goes.

Tricia is working hard on all aspects of preteen life! The 6th grade band will be playing at a big music conference in the cities on Valentine's Day so she is finally taking her practicing seriously. It is a huge honor and a ton of work for the kids. She is still dancing and is taking on an additional trio this year with two of her friends. That means two dance practices per week, but they are having fun working on some more difficult dances. And of course there is schoolwork. She is handling the homework well this year and seems to understand that homework is the new school reality.

Ryleigh is having fun being a first grader! She loves reading and writing especially. Her writing has exploded in the past month; she writes all the time! Over break she picked up a Junie B Jones chapter book and read it cover to cover with no problem. I am super proud of her! She is also continuing with dance and loving it. She adores Miss Cindy and will do anything to please her!

So that is life right now. Hopefully I will get on here to update at least once a week! No promises though :)
